I received the message below yesterday & confirmed overnight with Ross Miller, a Pl Comd in V Coy 68/69 that unfortunately this refers to our NZ Chaplain during the first tour: Padre Vercoe.
Sadly we have lost another great man, a warrior & leader in his chosen field. Those who attended the last Bn Reunion in NZ in 2005 will recall the important role he played in welcoming everyone to the gathering & then again at the Memorial March/Service. As I advised Ross, we all had a special respect & admiration for him. His understanding of we mere mortals & what really mattered was unique. Please pass on this sad news to Members of 4 Rar/NZ(ANZAC) Bn. Sincerely, Bob |
